BAX has four light filled rehearsal studios with hardwood floors suitable for dance or theater rehearsals.
Studio A is 26.5 x 35',
Studio B is 26 x 30' with mirrors,
Studio C 18 x 39' with mirrors,
Studio D (doubles as 70 seat theater) is 28 x 42'.
All studios include wifi and bluetooth speakers. Chairs and tables are available upon request. Theatrical Lighting in Studio D is available for additional fees.
The space is open 7 days a week, 9am-10pm – excluding some holidays and late August.
Subsidized rehearsal space for dance and theater is $10-16/hour. $8/hour same day bookings. Rates vary for Classes/Workshops, performances, informal showings, readings, meetings and parties. $25 annual maintenance fee.
Brooklyn Art Haus

Brooklyn Art Haus has two studios and a main theater that are available for rent!
Their location is open daily from 9am-10pm. The rates for their spaces are as followis:
Studio One (187 sq ft) – $20 per hour
Studio Two (437 sq ft) – $30 per hour
Main Theater (1200 sq ft) – $50 per hour
JACK
Brooklyn – Clinton Hill

JACK’s venue is an accessible and flexible open space approx. 39' x 26' with a conventional theatrical lighting system, Sound PA System, Lobby, Projector, chairs, tables, Box office, and Dressing Room.
The space is available when they don't have their own programming going on.
Due to this, there is not a set schedule of when JACK is available; it varies based on their programming calendar.
The rehearsal space is available for artist/nonprofit organizations at the following discounted rates:
Off-Peak – Mon-Fri from 10am-8pm – $25 an hour; Daily $275
Peak – Mon-Fri from 8pm-10pm, Sat-Sun from 10am-10pm – $40 an hour; Weekend Daily $440
The Brick Theater

The Brick Aux Studio Space is available to rent. Their space is 25ft wide x 40ft long x 9ft high and has a wood floor.
There is a basic sound system and mixer, chairs, folding tables, and a digital keyboard.
They can offer discounted rehearsal space of $10 an hour to the IndieSpace community, as part of a NYSCA rehearsal space grant.
The subsidized rehearsal space is available from 10am to 5pm, Monday through Friday.
The Rat NYC
Brooklyn – Dumbo

The Rat NYC is renting their 16x21' black box space.
It includes marley floor over laminate (not sprung.) The space has tables, chairs, rehearsal blocks, music stands, dressing area, and water cooler available.
The Rat NYC is available from Monday to Friday from 10am-4pm.
Bookings outside of these hours can be arranged privately if available.

Vangeline Theater/ New York Butoh Institute
Brooklyn – Gowanus

The Vangeline Theater/ New York Butoh Institute is available for a variety of rentals, including rehearsals, small classes and workshops, auditions, film shoots, and meetings.
Their dance studio located in the heart of the Gowanus in Brooklyn and is column-free and fully equipped with full-length mirrors, a portable barre, a sound system, chairs, new Rosco Marley floors with subfloors, heat/air-conditioning, WiFi, and a silent, state-of-the-arts air purifier.
Their studio is clean and bright with natural light, and renters have access to a private bathroom. The studio is cleaned daily.
Studio dimensions: 700 square feet; Dance floor Area: 22x24 or 530 square feet.
Capacity Limit: 20 people

Dance Project of Washington Heights strives to offer affordable studio space for artists and non-profits. Space rentals also support the programming of DPWH, helping to make sure that kids and families in Upper Manhattan have access to an amazing dance education.
With three dance studios, a comfy sitting area and kitchenette, a number of amenities and a friendly staff, they offer a cozy space with a community atmosphere where we want you to feel at home. Bonus: floors are percussive dance-friendly!

Dramatists Guild Foundation Writing Rooms

The Dramatists Guild Foundation (DGF) offers free space in midtown Manhattan for dramatists to write, collaborate, and create.
Three different spaces are available for dramatists to use for free: Music Hall, Composers Corner, and Writers Den.
FRIGID New York

UNDER St Marks is available to rent for performances and daytime rehearsals. FRIGID’s rentals are discounted and offer flexibility for the time of day.
It is a great option for an emerging playwright, established theater company, dance troupe, or event organizer. Contact them to inquire about availability, pricing, or to schedule a tour of their theater space.
Gene Frankel Theatre
Manhattan – NOHO

Gene Frankel Theatre offers a Ground Floor Theatre and a Lower Level Rehearsal Room.
Their standard rehearsal times are Monday - Friday from 1pm - 6pm. Off hour rentals are available but availability varies depending on their other rentals.
The rates are $30 per hour for the lower level rehearsal space / $50 per hour for the ground floor theatre (rehearsals only) Ground floor theatre availability depends on what our current production has installed in the space.
They have a detailed website with dimensions of stage, ceiling, seating, lighting, audio, projector, and building amenities for each rehearsal space.
Houghton Hall Arts Community

Houghton Hall Arts Community (HHAC) would like to offer IndieSpace artists 50% off rates for first-time renters from 9 AM-4:30 PM (rentals must end by 4:30 PM) Mondays-Fridays August 5 through September 6, 2024.

IATI Theater

Quantum Echoes is designed to provide subsidized rehearsal space at IATI Theater for qualifying BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) artists at a flat rate of $10 per hour.
IATI Theater aims to amplify underrepresented voices and foster a more diverse and inclusive artistic landscape, supporting non-profit companies and individual performing artists.

The Mabou Mines studio is available for rent through their non-profit subsidized rental program.
The rehearsal space is 25’x 24′.
The non-profit rental rate is $30/hour.

National Opera Center

The Opera Center offers flexible rental spaces for companies, choruses, ensembles, teaching studios, and individuals for performances, rehearsals, auditions, recordings, meetings, special events, networking, and more.
Make yourself comfortable in clean, modern, and acoustically excellent spaces that accommodate a variety of activities, ranging from solo practice and teleconference meetings to recitals and workshops. This includes 9 studio spaces (Economy, Standard, & Premium), 2 large rehearsal halls, and 1 intimate performance venue.

Royal Family Productions

Royal Family Productions rents their theater in midtown. Their theater is 20x25, with marley flooring. It has an upright piano, a stair unit, chairs, stools, and rehearsal cubes.
They can offer discounted rehearsal space to the IndieSpace community thanks to NYSCA giving them a grant for subsidized rehearsal space!
They can offer $5/hour-$10/hour. The theater is available for rentals from 10am-5pm.
The Barrow Group

There is no discount for certain days/times, but we do offer a discount to non-profits and artists for rehearsals which is 20 - 30 percent below the for-profit rate.

Theaterlab

Through the generous support of NYSCA, Theaterlab is able to offer $10/Hour subsidized rehearsal space in their gallery space. It is available Monday to Friday from 10am-4pm.
The space is 20’ x 21’ with 9’2” ceiling and can accommodate up to 12 artists.

Speyer Hall is the home of The Performance Project @ University Settlement and a Lower East Side gem. It’s located within University Settlement’s headquarters at 184 Eldridge Street and is ideal for performances, celebrations, and works in progress.

They are offering rehearsal space for the IndieSpace community – $10 per hour for rehearsals for off-peak, $15 at other times, $20 per hour to rent the theatre [rehearsal only].
They have good availability during days and most evenings. And their spaces have wooden floors.

Dance/NYC shares subsidized rehearsal space through the New York City Dance Rehearsal Space Subsidy Program.
Through this program – administered by Dance/NYC and made possible by the Mellon Foundation – dance artists and small budget dance making organizations/groups will have access to affordable, accessible rehearsal spaces in all five boroughs of New York City at rates ranging from $5-$10 per hour.
