Indie Theater Discord Server - A New Resource Hosted by IndieSpace
We are so excited to share the Indie Theater Discord Server, a place for connection for the indie theater community.
The Indie Theater Discord is a virtual home for artists to collaborate, communicate, and educate. You can learn about indie theater opportunities and network with like-minded artists and workers.
What is the Indie Theater Discord Server?
Discord is a communication platform designed for communities. It combines the best elements of text, voice, and video chat to create a space where people can gather, talk, and collaborate.
We started with some channels we thought would be useful. These channels are around different themes/topics. It’s a digital community that can help you find a lighting designer, a funding opportunity, a rehearsal space, a writer’s residency, a casting call, or where to borrow stage combat swords.
Why did you create the Indie Theater Discord Server?
This was a community suggestion! Several people asked about this at the Indie Theater Convocation this past summer.
Folks shared that they wanted a place to communicate and connect at their leisure. As social media channels become frayed – and some can be a bit toXic – we wanted a safe and inspiring space for artists and enthusiasts.
Who is the Indie Theater Discord Server for?
This is for anyone and everyone in the indie theater community. It is an ideal place if you’ve ever done any one of the following:
Posted on social media asking for a recommendation or referral
Attended an event to connect with other people in the indie theater community
Looked for grants or funding opportunities for individual artists or small companies
Sought advice on working with a venue or company for the first time
Joined a message board or Facebook group related to indie theater
Searched online for announcements for auditions, casting calls, job openings
Researched a performance venue or rehearsal space
This sounds great! How do I join?
We’re excited to have you!
Please know this is in beta mode. We’ve started some channels we thought would be helpful. We have a suggestion box if you have ideas for additional topics or channels and are committed to making this space work for you. The space will be most beneficial when there is a critical mass of people using it. Please invite friends and colleagues!
In other words, Discord is in the midst of tech rehearsals, and we want to ensure we’re best meeting the artists' needs.
If you have any questions, ideas, or suggestions, please send us a note at hello@indiespace.org.
We look forward to seeing you in Discord!
