Learn About Supertitles with Kairos Italy Theater and IndieSpace
IndieSpace is cohosting a workshop on Supertitles with Kairos Italy Theater on Monday, June 5, from 3:00-4:30pm on Zoom.
This workshop aims to introduce the art of supertitling in theater. It will provide the fundamental principles and a general description of specific aims and modality, including some samples, advice, and challenges.
It will cover questions like:
How do you supertitle your live performance?
What are the core principles to make supertitles work with and for the performance and not be an inconvenience?
What are the tricks for entertainers to use supertitles in small, challenging theaters?
We’ll be offering Supertitling services to two companies/productions that attend the show, which is a value of $300 per production.
The workshop is led by Donatella Codonesu, a journalist, theater critic, producer, and expert in supertitling. With a Degree in Foreign Languages and Literature and a thesis on American Modern Drama from La Sapienza University in Rome, she worked as an event organizer for an international multinational company for a decade before dedicating her career to theater. As a journalist, she co-founded an important webzine on theater, teatroteatro.it, was a columnist for one the main Italian newspapers, Corriere della Sera, and curated and hosted “Dietro le quinte”, a radio program about theater, in collaboration with Roma3 University.
Donatella is the co-producer of several performances and two international theater festivals, in Italy and in the USA, and has a professional expertise in theater translating and supertitling, gained while working on Italian and English shows for more than ten years. Since 2016, Donatella has been developing programs for tutoring and training university students on theater translation and supertitling, in collaboration with Scuola Civica Altiero Spinelli and IULM University in Milan and Roma3 University. She is the Artistic Director of KIT Italia, an Italian Theater company dedicated to connecting international theater with the Italian theater scene and vice versa, the co-founder, Associate Director and Director of Supertitles for In Scena! Italian Theater Festival NY, the Italian theater Festival in NY and the co-founder and Artistic Director of OnStage! Festival bringing US theater to Italy. She actively supports the non for profit projects “Voices in the desert – recycling memory”. Donatella is International Affiliate of the LPTW (League of Professional Theatre Women) since September 2018 and a board member of “Ri-scatti onlus” since 2021.
